OSU Design Build Team takes first at Virtual ASC Regional Competition

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

The Oklahoma State University (OSU)  Design Build team recently won first place in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 5 Virtual Student Competition hosted by TEXO.

The ASC is a professional association committed to the development and advancement of construction education through the use of sharing ideas and knowledge. “The team produces a proposal that includes a design, estimate, schedule and construction logistics plan,” Dr. Heather Yates said. “The group presents their solution to the design/build team that built the actual project.”

The first place team is comprised of  Jonathan Costello (CET), Stevie Glew (ARCHE), Madison Clark (ARCH), Karina Jarzen (CET), Brock Burchel (CET)  and Jack Maddox (CET). The team was lead by Dr. Heather Yates.

The OSU design program has excelled in this competition with returning students in both construction and architecture. The team consists of two architecture students and four construction students. According to the judges from Cadance McShane Construction Company, the group produced a great design, which included a great estimate, logistics plan and presentation.

The ASC promotes excellence in curricula, service, teaching and research. The ASC Region 5 – South Central Region is comprised of colleges and universities offering four-year and two-year construction management, science and technology degrees in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. Region 5 encourages students from both construction and architecture to participate in the competition.

“I am most proud of their innovative approaches to both the problem and the new virtual format,” Yates said. “They listened to all the feedback that faculty provided before the competition and incorporated it into their presentation. This team produced an excellent presentation that really showcased their skills.”

OSU CEAT would like to congratulate the team and students on their accomplishments.
