The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) at Oklahoma State University was ranked most affordable school for its fire and emergency management (FEMP) program by OnlineU.

A master’s degree in emergency management is designed for either full-time students or established professionals who are looking to assume administrative and managerial roles in emergency or fire management. These programs, whether online or in person, provide an overview of the theories and concepts of risk assessment and helps students develop their managerial skills.

Many of the online master’s programs in emergency management have courses that cover risk mitigation, terrorism and disaster response. In addition to coursework, online students can expect to complete a practicum, capstone project, or thesis in order to graduate. Afterward, they may pursue careers like emergency management specialists, security officers and business community managers.

OnlineU Established in 1996, OSU’s FEMP program is one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in the nation. The program started as a Master of Arts specializing in fire and emergency management within the School of Political Science. In 1999, the degree changed to the Master of Science in fire and emergency management administration within CEAT. The curriculum includes public policy, strategic administration and organizational management, human dimensions of disaster, leadership and terrorism.

“The Master of Science was also ranked No. 1 for Best Online Masters Programs in Emergency Management in 2022 by Online Masters Degrees,” said Haley Murphy, associate professor and program coordinator for the Fire and Emergency Management Administration program. “Graduates from the program are making a real impact in their organizations and communities by applying the skills they learned in this program.”

OSU offers a variety of fire programs, including a master’s and doctoral degree in fire and emergency management, a minor in emergency management as well as a minor, bachelor’s and master’s degree in fire protection and safety engineering technology.
