Brian Pinto, a mechanical engineering junior, has accepted an offshore engineering internship with H&P for the summer of 2025.
Pinto, an Edmond, Oklahoma, product who expects to graduate in May 2026, was inspired to pursue this type of engineering because it offers the opportunity to solve real-world problems and make a tangible impact.
“The challenge of working on complex systems and finding innovative solutions drives me, and I’m excited to contribute to an industry that’s crucial for our future,” Pinto said.
Pinto previously interned with ClimateMaster, a company producing innovative and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. He collected and analyzed performance data from motor systems and developed reports on efficiency improvements.
“This experience gave me valuable hands-on knowledge in HVAC systems and data interpretation, which has been instrumental in my academic and professional development,” Pinto said.
With a goal of working in the energy industry after graduation, the internship with H&P will provide him with an overview of the industry, from drilling operations to safety protocols. It will also align with his coursework, as he is excited to see how theoretical knowledge translates into real-world engineering applications.
“I expect to be involved in various aspects of offshore drilling operations, including hands-on experience with drilling equipment, monitoring performance data and assisting in troubleshooting issues that may arise on site,” Pinto said. “I anticipate working closely with engineers to optimize drilling processes while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and technologies specific to the offshore industry. Additionally, I look forward to participating in safety protocols and learning more about how offshore teams manage complex operations in real-world environments.”
Many people in CEAT have supported Pinto and helped him get where he is today.
“I am grateful for the opportunities CEAT has provided me throughout my time as a student,” Pinto said. “The support and resources have been instrumental in helping me secure this internship and grow as a professional.”
CEAT and the mechanical engineering coursework he has taken have helped lay the foundation for developing skills relevant to the oil drilling industry. This has provided him with the problem-solving, data analysis and hands-on skills to help him thrive.
By taking classes such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics and strength of materials, Pinto has a well-rounded understanding of thermal and fluid systems, and material behavior under stress. These courses he has taken as a CEAT student have provided him with a strong skillset directly pertaining to oil drilling.
“Through my coursework and labs such as my strengths lab, I’ve developed a strong foundation in problem-solving, data analysis and hands-on skills that directly apply to the oil drilling industry,” Pinto said.
