The Oklahoma State University School of Global Studies welcomed Will Davis, director of the United Nations Information Center in Washington, D.C., to campus for the first Global Briefing Series event of 2026.

Appointed by U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres in August 2024, Davis brings more than two decades of experience working across international organizations and the U.S. federal government. His career includes service with the U.N., the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and multiple roles within the United States government, with a focus on international affairs, diplomacy and global governance.

In his presentation, titled “The Future of the US-UN Relationship: Will Multilateralism Go the Way of the Dinosaurs?” Davis examined the evolving relationship between the U.S. and the U.N. amid shifting geopolitical landscapes. He discussed how changing domestic priorities, global power dynamics and international cooperation continue to shape the future of multilateral engagement.

Davis highlighted the challenges facing multilateral institutions in an increasingly complex global environment while also addressing opportunities for renewed cooperation and leadership. Drawing from his professional experience, he provided insight into how diplomacy and international partnerships play a critical role in addressing global issues.

“Mr. Davis’s discussion offered a nuanced perspective on the future of U.S.-U.N. relations, particularly by clarifying what the U.N. can and cannot realistically achieve,” first-year Global Studies master’s student Ana Solis Ruiz said. “It helped me better understand how multilateral institutions work today. This was one of my favorite Global Briefing Series events thus far.”

The Global Briefing Series, organized by the School of Global Studies, provides a platform for thought-provoking discussions, offering students and the broader community opportunities to engage with experts on pressing global issues.
