The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust has named Oklahoma State University Medical Center a recipient of the TSET Legacy Grant, providing $30 million in grant funding to support the hospital's ongoing expansion project.

“This support from TSET will enhance our ability to deliver first-rate care, improve patient experiences and support our mission of training future physicians for rural Oklahoma,” said Finny Mathew, OSUMC president.

OSUMC’s project, “Advancing Healthcare Education and Workforce Development Across Oklahoma,” will develop a state-of-the-art educational facility focused on graduate medical education and allied health workforce training. The expansion, totaling $200 million, includes new, teaching-focused surgical suites, a medical research lab, an expanded café, a receiving dock with a connected warehouse, and a skybridge connecting OSUMC to the new James Mountain Inhofe VA Medical Center across Seventh Street.

To fund the expansion, OSUMC has received $50 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding, $30 million in Legacy Capital Funding from the State of Oklahoma, and $30 million from the TSET grant. OSUMC will continue to look for opportunities to fund the remaining $90 million.

“Too many Oklahomans are driving too far and waiting too long for appointments with health care providers,” said Julie Bisbee, TSET executive director. “With this TSET Legacy Grant, TSET is proud to support the expansion of OSU Medical Center and help train the providers who will fill this critical need in Tulsa and throughout rural Oklahoma.”

The award from TSET contributes to a larger health care investment underway in downtown Tulsa’s OSU Academic Medical District. The new district is a transformative project for the region. It reflects the OSU Medicine mission to provide access to excellent health care while training future physicians to serve rural and underserved Oklahomans.
