Oklahoma State Recognizes New Healthy Departments

America’s Healthiest Campus® is proud to recognize 112 new Certified Healthy Departments across the OSU system.
“Thanks to all who applied and are working to implement a culture of wellness within your departments!” said Chief Wellness Officer Suzy Harrington.
One hundred forty two applied with 112 becoming certified across all our campuses and OCES. Seventeen percent scored 90% or better and 68 had AHC Innovators. It is clear that at least nearly 4,600 employees system-wide are working on their health and well-being.
First Cowgirl Ann Hargis and the Department of Wellness kick-started the program in 2011 with nine healthy departments and they are proud to witness the program’s tremendous growth in just four years.
“We are extremely proud to see this program grow and expand system-wide,” said Mary Talley, Employee Wellness Program manager within the Department of Wellness. “We commend these departments for implementing healthy activities that are impacting work units and contributing to OSU’s mission of being America’s Healthiest Campus.”
The departments certified were selected for demonstrating excellence in the following areas:
- Leadership Support
- Culture of Wellness
- Environmental Safety
- Active Lifestyle
- Nutrition/Hydration
- Tobacco Free
- Mental Health and Well-Being
- Designated AHC Innovator
The AHC Innovators are OSU employees chosen not only for their individual efforts to lead healthy lifestyles, but also for their commitments to be catalysts for health in their respective departments.
“They are the ones who help make the right choice not just the easy choice but also the fun choice,” Harrington said.
All departments system-wide are encouraged to continue to live happy and healthy and look for the 2016 Certified Healthy Application to come out at the beginning of next year.
“Remember that living America’s Healthiest Campus is not about our BMI – rather, it is a process to be the best we can be – the most engaged, must productive, most successful, and most happy!” Harrington said.
