Oklahoma State University Crowns Miss OSU 2016

Friday, October 9, 2015

After months of preparation and hard work, 10 Oklahoma State University students competed for the title of Miss OSU 2016 on Oct. 1. Only one contestant would leave the Seretean Center with the crown and the coveted title.  Human development family sciences senior from Tulsa, Okla., Triana Browne-Hearrell, was that young woman.

Contestants competed in multiple phases of competition, including a pre-show interview with the judging panel, physical fitness in swimsuit, on-stage question, talent and evening wear. Browne-Hearrell was also named the winner of the interview competition. This was Browne-Hearrell’s second time competing at the pageant. At the Miss OSU 2015 Pageant, she was awarded first runner-up.

As the winner of the pageant, Browne-Hearrell receives a $1,200 scholarship and will represent OSU at the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant in June in Tulsa, Okla. Should she be crowned as the winner of that competition, she will go on to compete for the Miss America crown.

Browne-Hearell’s platform, Heart to Heart, stems from her passion to promote healthy living.

“I intend to have a heart-to-heart discussion with children, teens and my peers on the importance of developing life-long healthy eating habits while becoming and staying physically active,” said Browne-Hearrell. “I will also encourage the entire family unit to become involved in healthier eating and active lifestyles.”

In addition to the winner, there are four other runners-up cash scholarships awarded ranging between $150 and $1,200.  Those were awarded to Samantha Martin, first runner-up from Oklahoma City; Veronique Pittman, second runner-up from Seiling, Okla.; Emily Falkenberg, third runner-up from Plainview, Texas; and Abigail Alred, fourth runner-up from Stillwater.

The Miss OSU Pageant is held annually for women at any of the Oklahoma State University campuses between the ages of 17 and 25. A major requirement for Miss OSU is she is able to compete successfully at the Miss Oklahoma Pageant.  Miss Oklahoma has traditionally sought women who can represent the state in an official capacity and speak extemporaneously to groups as diverse as public school students, civic organizations and the Oklahoma Legislature.  For more information about the Miss OSU Pageant, visit missosu.okstate.edu.
