OSU grad makes stops in Oklahoma during coast-to-coast ride to fight obesity

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Oklahoma State University graduate Scott Poindexter is riding across the country this summer to bring awareness to what he says is an “obesity epidemic” in our country.  Poindexter’s ride is especially timely with recent reports showing obesity rates increasing in more than half of the states and Oklahoma ranking sixth in the nation of states with the highest obesity rates.

Over the past week Poindexter made stops in Oklahoma City, Stillwater and Tulsa.  During his stop in Stillwater the OSU alum spoke to the staff at the OSU Seretean Wellness Center in addition to speaking to a couple of classes on campus.

A resident of Denver, Colorado, Poindexter began the ride on June 3 in San Francisco, California and is expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. August 9.   In addition to bringing awareness to obesity, Poindexter is also raising money.

Articles about his efforts have appeared in the Oklahoman, Tulsa World and Stillwater NewsPress.   More information about his ride and activities can be found at www.fightobesityride.com.
