The students are selected during their sophomore year, based on criteria including scholarship, community service, campus involvement and outstanding leadership throughout their first year at OSU. All honorees will be invited to a dinner with OSU President Burns Hargis.

On average, more than 120 students apply for this award, according to the Achafoa Chapter of Mortar Board (honor society) at OSU, which coordinates the annual selection process.

The following top 20 winners also qualify as finalists for top 10 men and top 10 women honors and will be chosen based on their individual performance during an interview. The final 10 students in each category will be recognized at a reception on Saturday, Oct. 8 and again that day at the OSU vs. Iowa State home football game.
