Monday, October 24, 2005

STILLWATER, Okla. – An Oklahoma State University professor will travel to Cairo this fall to teach a business reporting class in a program sponsored by the Center for International Private Enterprise.

"I'm excited about working with Egyptian students,” said Shaun Schafer, visiting assistant professor of journalism. “I look forward to hearing their perspectives of capitalism, socialism and religion."

As part of the CIPE program, Schafer will teach an intensive four-week course on business journalism at Misr International University in Cairo. He departs for Cairo on Nov. 16 and returns on Dec. 18.

Schafer, who spent the past summer working for The Associated Press, teaches the reporting class each semester at OSU and a business reporting class in the spring. Prior to joining the faculty in 2003, Schafer spent eight years working as a reporter at the Tulsa World.

Previously he worked as a reporter and editor in Kansas City, Mo.; Fort Smith, Ark.; Chicago, San Francisco; Sydney and Brisbane, Australia.
