OSU seeks Ombuds Officer to replace Beer

Friday, June 19, 2015

Oklahoma State University is opening the search for a new Ombuds Officer to replace Ron Beer, who is stepping down for health reasons. The Ombuds Officer promotes a supportive learning and working environment at OSU.

“I appreciate the job Ron has done in establishing this important position,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “He was well suited to serve as Ombuds Officer, providing faculty, students and staff a place to talk about campus-related problems and concerns.”

Beer served as vice president of student affairs at Oklahoma State for 20 years. He retired in 2000 and was appointed to the new ombuds position in November 2013.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my return to OSU and commend President Hargis and the administration for creating this important position,” Beer said. “The key role of the Ombuds Officer is listening and I am leaving the positon because I don’t feel my hearing is up to the task. I’m pleased with what we have accomplished and look forward to continued success for the position.”

The Ombuds Officer serves as a resource for all members of the OSU community on the Stillwater, OSU-Tulsa and OSU-IT in Okmulgee campuses. The Ombuds Officer is available to listen to a person's concern about a dispute or conflict involving students, faculty and staff, and assist parties in mediating a mutually agreeable resolution, when reasonably possible.
