OSUIT Expands Pete’s Pantry Services to Enhance Student Support

Monday, October 16, 2023

OSU Institute of Technology is proud to announce the expansion of services at Pete’s Pantry to increase support for students and employees.

Every Tuesday, Teresa Riley, our dedicated Community Health Worker, will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Pete’s Pantry in the former Workforce building located south of the Grady Clack Center, to help connect students and employees with newly offered resources.

“Community Health Workers cultivate relationships through outreach, education, social support and advocacy. I aim to empower individuals by addressing their unique needs, including food assistance programs, program referrals, housing assistance, transportation needs, and Soonercare eligibility checks. I invite you to visit with me every Tuesday to build a stronger, healthier community,” said Riley.

Services Now Available:

  • Transportation Services: Assisting students in reaching their destinations, ensuring they can attend classes and work commitments.
  • Housing Assistance: Providing guidance and support in finding suitable and affordable housing options.
  • Food Assistance - SNAP Sign Up: Offering help in signing up for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), enabling individuals to access food through electronic benefits cards at authorized retail outlets.
  • Community Connections: Facilitating connections with local community services and resources, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
  • Program Referrals: Guiding individuals toward relevant programs and initiatives that can enhance their overall well-being and success.
  • Health Education - SoonerCare Sign Up: Educating individuals about health resources and assisting in the enrollment process for SoonerCare, ensuring access to essential healthcare services.
  • Financial Guidance: Providing advice on financial planning, budgeting, and available financial assistance programs to alleviate financial stress.
  • Insurance Eligibility Screening: Offering assistance in exploring insurance options and determining eligibility criteria for various insurance programs.

Since Pete’s Pantry was established, it has been instrumental in tackling food insecurity and supporting student success. The new services were added to ensure students have access to essential resources and provide an environment in which every student can thrive.

To further these efforts, Pete’s Pantry welcomes volunteers as well as donations. The current focus is on expanding the winter clothing supply to meet the upcoming demands.
