Association gives national recognition to OSU CIED
The University Economic Development Association has notified the OSU Center for Innovation and Economic Development, Inc., that one of its programs has been named a national finalist in the business assistance category. CIED’s Oklahoma Production Integration Network is the program recognized as a finalist. OPIN is a consortium of over 200 Oklahoma manufacturers that produce customized “problem” parts for military systems. Problem parts are ones that the military needs for aircraft or other vehicles, but cannot otherwise procure due to lack of technical information, part obsolescence, the original manufacturers being out of business or some other reason. OPIN secures competitive bids from Oklahoma companies to gain contracts that might otherwise go out of state. In 2006, more than $13 million in contracts were let to Oklahoma firms in this manner; 2007 estimates are for approximately $20 million in new contracts to be awarded in state.
