Fulton earns Outstanding Service Award

Robert W. Fulton, DVM, Ph.D., received the 2015 Academy of Veterinary Consultants Outstanding Service Award for his contributions to the Academy of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) and to the beef industry.
Sponsored by the AVC and Merck Animal Health, the award was presented to Fulton at the Spring AVC meeting held recently in Norman, Oklahoma. In addition to the honor, Merck Animal Health will make a $2,000 contribution to the AVC Foundation in Fulton’s name for student scholarships to be awarded by the AVC.
Fulton is a regents professor and the McCasland Foundation Endowed Chair for Research in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. He is best known for his research in bovine respiratory viruses and bovine viral diarrhea virus and for his dedication to serving AVC members and mentoring other veterinarians.
“I would like to express my deep appreciation to the Academy of Veterinary Consultants and Merck Animal Health for the Outstanding Service Award,” Fulton said. “I am humbled to be included with prior recipients. This award is a highlight of my career in veterinary medicine.”
A native of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Fulton earned his DVM degree from OSU in 1966. He served four years as captain in the U.S. Air Force Veterinary Corps before earning a M.S. degree from Washington State University and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. Fulton has been on faculty at OSU CVHS since 1982.
