Aurora Pharmaceutical presents a check for $5,540 to support OSU’s equine resident research endeavors. Equine veterinarians at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently gathered to accept a donation from Aurora Pharmaceutical. The $5,540 gift is designated to support the research endeavors of equine house officers.

Presenting the generous check were Dr. Matt Klotz, Aurora veterinary services, and Holly Stormont, Aurora sales representative for Oklahoma.

“The company is owned by two veterinarians so it’s a natural fit for us to want to support research,” said Klotz who earned his DVM degree from OSU in 1996. “We also wanted a way to give back to universities to encourage clinical equine research.”

On hand to accept the check were two house officers and their mentors. Dr. Amy Lovett is an equine internal medicine resident mentored by Dr. Todd Holbrook. Dr. Hugh Duddy is an equine surgery resident mentored by Dr. Mike Schoonover.

“The house officer residency programs have a required research component and acquiring funding for these small research projects is often a challenge,” added Schoonover. “This donation will have a very positive impact on our equine house officer training programs and the research mission of Oklahoma State University.”

In addition to Oklahoma State, Aurora donated funds in varying amounts to the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the Ruffian Center of Cornell University, Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
