Oklahoma State Advocates for Veterinary Medicine

Wednesday, April 3, 2019

Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently sent a small delegation to Washington, D.C., to participate in Advocacy Day for the profession of veterinary medicine. Attending on the center’s behalf were Dr. Carlos Risco, dean; Dr. Jerry Malayer, associate dean of research and graduate education; Dr. Chris Ross, professor; and Kyre Larrabee, National Student AVAMA president and member of the center’s class of 2020.

“We met with people from the offices of Oklahoma’s Senators and House of Representatives to talk about important legislative material revolving around veterinary medical colleges,” said Larrabee. “The three big topics were public service loan forgiveness, the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program, and continuing funding for National Institutes of Health research.”

Advocacy Day is held in conjunction with the Annual Conference of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges also held in Washington, D.C.
