Johnson Named Distinguished Alumnus of Veterinary Center

Bill Johnson, DVM, DACVP, of Stillwater was recently named a 2018 Distinguished Alumnus of Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. A native of Claremore, Okla., Johnson earned his DVM degree from OSU in 1973.

Johnson began his veterinary medicine career practicing in Northeastern Oklahoma. After four years, he returned to OSU to complete a residency in pathology at the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) becoming a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 1982. He served as assistant professor of Pathology at the OADDL from 1981 to 1988.

From 1988 to 2001, Johnson served as the section chief of Pathology at the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California – Davis. He returned to OSU once again serving as professor and assistant director of the OADDL from 2001 to 2004 when he became director of OADDL until he retired in 2013.

Throughout his career Johnson has represented the South Central District of the American Association of Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (AAVLD) including serving on AAVLD’s Accreditation Committee. He has authored or co-authored 60 refereed papers and book chapters, 29 abstracts and 27 scientific presentations at state and national meetings.

Dr. Bill Johnson will be honored at the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award Luncheon hosted by OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences on Friday, Oct. 12, at 11:30 a.m. in Room 101 at the Wes Watkins Center located on the OSU Stillwater campus.
