Milo: Traveling the Road to Recovery

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

Milo, a rescued hound puppy, is traveling down the road to recovery. Born with front paws that turned upward instead of down, Milo underwent corrective surgery on January 9, 2019, at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.

Dr. Erik Clary, associate professor of small animal surgery, performed the surgery.

“For each of his elbows, we entered the joint and restored the alignment,” said Clary. “Then we placed a pin across the joint to keep it straight while Milo continues to grow.”

Milo’s first bandage change went well and a second is scheduled on January 23.

“If Milo’s front paws continue to stay in place, we will schedule Milo to remove the pins in his elbows,” explained Clary. “Once we believe his elbows are stable, we will begin intensive rehabilitation. Milo will need to build his muscle mass and learn how to walk. Success is not guaranteed at this stage, but we are all pulling for Milo and look forward to seeing his progress.”

If you would like to help pay for Milo’s veterinary medical care, please contact Oliver and Friends Farm Rescue and Sanctuary at 405-655-9885. Donations to the nonprofit organization located in Luther, Oklahoma, are tax deductible.
