Heath Earns Outstanding Veterinarian Award

President Kayse Shrum last walked across the stage in 1998 and now she will be the one giving out the degrees. Dr. Shrum, who became Oklahoma State University’s president on July 1, has already accomplished a number of firsts in her role, but on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, she will preside over her first commencement ceremonies.

The award recognizes Griffin’s outstanding service to the profession throughout his 45-year career in veterinary medicine.

OSU Livestock Judging Team takes top spot at nationals

Oklahoma State University’s Livestock Judging Team and coach earned top honors for a historic 21st time at the recent North American International Livestock Exposition. In addition to the OSU Department of Animal and Food Sciences students winning the 2020-2021 National Champion award, Parker Henley, assistant professor and OSU Extension specialist, was named Coach of the Year by the National Collegiate Livestock Coaches’ Association.

2021 Veterans Day Observance at Vet Med: A Search for a Hero

Each year Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine hosts a Veterans Day Observance. Dr. Jerry Ritchey, alumnus (CVM ’91) and professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, shared a story with attendees about his grandfather, who was killed in action in France during World War II. Ritchey didn’t know much about his grandfather and set out on a journey to find out who he was and what he did.

Veterinary Viewpoints: How deep puncture wounds in horses’ feet can be found, treated

Sustaining deep puncture wounds to the foot causes lameness in horses. The opening of the puncture wound may or may not be evident during physical examination. The veterinarian examining the foot must try to determine if the horse is experiencing a common foot abscess or a puncture wound.
