Eighteen CAS students named 2025-26 Wentz, Purdie Research Scholars

The College of Arts and Sciences is well represented in Oklahoma State University’s 2025-2026 Wentz Research Scholars and Purdie Research Scholars awardee lists: 14 of 43 Wentz recipients are majoring in a CAS discipline, while all four of the Purdie scholars call CAS home.

Of the 25 Outstanding Seniors selected by the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association for the 2024-25 academic year, 11 are students within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Outstanding Seniors award recognizes OSU students who show excellence through academic achievement; campus and community involvement; academic, athletic or extracurricular honors or awards; scholarships; and work ethic during their time at Oklahoma State.

Four CAS student researchers present at Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium

Four students conducting research within Oklahoma State University’s College of Arts and Sciences delivered oral presentations at the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium in Houston in November. CAS students Elyse Cronic, Megan Roach, Kalen Strunk and Ferguson College of Agriculture student Elizabeth Struble attended GCURS, a prestigious undergraduate research conference that provides students around the world with opportunities to present their original research to a peer audience.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: How OSU’s Helium Recovery System is leading innovation in sustainability

After a time of uncertainty and scarcity — when consumers were stockpiling toilet paper and hand sanitizer — things were easing into normalcy in 2022. But that's when a different shortage began plaguing the Oklahoma State University Department of Chemistry. Due to widespread shortages, helium suppliers nationwide cut the amount of helium consumers could typically purchase. Because liquid helium is essential for conducting chemistry research at OSU, Drs. Margaret Eastman and Jimmie Weaver were challenged to think outside of the box to keep their department’s work going. The result was Oklahoma’s only helium recovery system (HRS) that liquefies recovered helium gas.

Enhancing animal and human health: Chemistry’s Pitre awarded NIH R35 grant

Oklahoma State University chemistry professor Spencer Pitre recently received an R35 grant award of $1,820,030 from the National Institute of Health that will support research contributing to the enhancement of human and animal health.
