OSU alumna wins national writing award for the visual arts

Brandy McDonnell was recently awarded the Rabkin Prize. The award is given to a select few visual arts writers annually, which, this year, included McDonnell, “The Oklahoman” features writer for over two decades.

When sports media major Steve Spears came to OSU as a sophomore, it was only three weeks before he was on camera. “It didn’t go great,” Spears said with a laugh. Luckily he’s had many more opportunities to not only hone his craft, but also help future and incoming journalists along the way: for two years, Spears has been president of OSU’s National Association of Black Journalists, building a community and creating opportunities for his fellow media majors.

The Outstanding Seniors award recognizes OSU students who show excellence through academic achievement; campus and community involvement; academic, athletic or extracurricular honors or awards; scholarships; and work ethic during their time at Oklahoma State.
