83-year-old woman completes bucket list

Thursday, July 2, 2015

An 83 year-old Stillwater, Okla. woman just checked the last item off her bucket list with the help of Oklahoma State University’s Outdoor Adventure.

Nancy Luce, a resident at Primrose Retirement Community, zip lined on June 30, 2015, at OSU’s Camp Redlands to complete the last item on her bucket list. After arriving at her retirement community last year, Luce decided to make a bucket list. Other items completed on her bucket list include tandem skydiving and riding a motorcycle.

“I’ve got a really good blessing as far as my health is concerned, so I might as well do what I can do,” Luce said.

The OSU outdoor adventure staff were in charge of the event. Nathan Diekelman, coordinator for outdoor adventure, was there to guide Luce through the process.

“We’re just here to support the community,” Diekelman said. “We think it’s awesome that someone is willing to get out of the confines of their retirement community so we want to support it.”

Luce brought friends and members of the Primrose Retirement Community to come watch and support her. Two of her friends, Rick Humphries and Keith McIlwain, decided to zip line as well. OSU Chief Wellness Officer, Suzy Harrington, was also there to meet Luce and witness the event.

“That’s what wellness is all about,” Harrington said. “It’s about being social with each other and being active.”

Luce said she doesn’t feel 83 years old. On the inside, she feels around the age of 30. After getting strapped in and climbing to the top of a platform, Luce was eager to complete the last item on her list.

“I’m not scared at all,” Luce said. “I mean it’s a piece of cake.”

After zip lining, Luce said she enjoyed it, but admitted to probably never doing it again. She is going to Colorado soon to visit her son and daughter-in law. She also plans to continue her adventure there by white water rafting.

“You always wonder if you’re really going to be able to do it, and I did it,” Luce said. “I feel good about that.”
