Oklahoma State University students named 2016 Newman Civic Fellows

Monday, April 11, 2016

Molly Danielson, 2016 Newman Civic Fellow

Oklahoma State University student Molly Danielson, a business management sophomore from Fort Worth, is one of the 218 students chosen to receive the 2016 Newman Civic Fellows Award. Danielson is joined in the select group by OSU-Institute of Technology’s Aron Smith.

Newman Civic Fellows are graduate or undergraduate students who “are proven leaders with both the motivation and ability to make substantial contributions towards public problem solving for this special recognition,” according to a Campus Compact press release.

As an ambassador for the Service Learning Volunteer Center, Danielson was a perfect candidate to be named a Newman Civic Fellow.

“Joyce Montgomery asked if any of the ambassadors were interested in applying and I thought it was a great opportunity and went for it,” Danielson said.  “I thought it was a great way to represent OSU because I really do try and make an impact here on campus.”

Danielson currently serves as the internal affairs chair on the residence hall association’s senate, she is a an ambassador for the SLVC program and she was recently voted in as the 2016-17 RHA president.

“I have always been excited to come to college and make a difference,” Danielson said.  “I really found my home in RHA and the SLVC and I feel like that is my way to leave an impact on the university, reach other students and grow as an individual.  The opportunity to apply for this nomination, then be nominated by President (Burns) Hargis and then chosen by campus compact is just so humbling and I am so grateful because the university has given so much for me. I am so appreciative and happy to be able give back to OSU.”

The students who received the 2016 Newman Civic Fellow recognition will receive an award certificate and an invitation to join the Newman Civic Fellows online network.  They will also be prominently featured on the Campus Compact website and invited to participate in state-specific activities, according to a Campus Compact press release.
