Student winners of research scholarship

Five Oklahoma State University students received scholarships from Express Employment Professionals for their research on Millennials’ attitudes toward the American dream on March 1. The research team included senior strategic communications majors Anna Tran, Oklahoma City; Faith Kelley, Stillwater; Katherine King of Southlake, Texas; Lauren Smith, Edmond; and Zoe Pike of Edmond.

OSU’s School of Media & Strategic Communication partnered with Express to conduct research for the staffing company. Under the direction of assistant professor Dr. Cynthia Nichols, nine research teams collected data and explored specific assigned topics through focus groups, one-on-one interviews and other research methods.

Research areas included: the ideal work place, life goals and the American Dream, technology and the work place, Express brand recognition, soft skills gap, the interview process, entitlement and community engagement and social values.

The winning research team presented their data on “First Generation Millennials and the American Dream” to Express executives before receiving their $1,000 scholarships from Express CEO and chairman of the board, Bob Funk.
