Pride Week planned to highlight campus diversity awareness

Oklahoma State University strives to offer programs and services that promote and support diversity on campus and in the Stillwater community. During the week of April 4-7, Student Union Activities Board will sponsor events to celebrate diversity and host its annual Pride Week.

“SUAB is excited to be putting together yet another Pride Week,” said Doug Idlett, Student Union Programs films committee chair.

The week opened with Monday’s Table Talk to discuss the coming out process and how to be supportive of those coming out. Monday evening a Poetry Workshop was held in the Cowboy Underground and then Kyla Lacey hosted Poetry & Music inviting students to share their story and song to celebrate Pride Week.

Pride Week is hosting movies Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, it will show “But I’m a Cheerleader” at 7 p.m. in Life Sciences West 103. Then show “The Danish Girl” Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater.

On Thursday, show support for the LGBTQIA+ community and have fun with free “Let Your Colors Show” tie-dying from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Classroom Building Lawn. To conclude the week, join Carmen Deveraux for the annual crowd-favorite Dragonfly drag show competition in the Student Union Theater on Thursday at 7 p.m. Admission to the show is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Dragonfly is not recommended for people under the age of 18.

“Students who attend Dragonfly and the films during Pride Week are sure to be entertained and informed,” Idlett said. “These events are sure to bring excitement to campus.”

Student Union Activities Board was established as a student organization in 1951. Since then, SUAB has provided a wide range of programs and events for the entire OSU community. The purpose of SUAB is to stimulate, motivate, educate and involve the student body through creative and fun events. As a student group, they provide numerous social, educational and cultural activities and events throughout the year that are specifically tailored to students' interests.
