The OSU Percussion Ensemble will present their Fall 2013 Concert on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. The ensemble is under the direction of co-directors Wayne Bovenschen and Stuart Langsam.
The concert will feature a variety of styles of percussion music. The opening work is a driving piece for four performers playing multiple drums, entitled "Four on the Floor" by Jeffrey Payton.
Two pieces, featuring all members on five different marimbas, will follow. The first half will close with "Suite for Solo Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble" by David Mancini featuring freshman Chad Chandler.
The second half opens with "Concertare" by Raymond Helble for percussion orchestra. Percussion orchestra is a common percussion ensemble instrumentation utilizing multiple marimbas, vibraphones, bells, chimes, timpani and other percussion instruments similar to a symphonic orchestra.
The concert will close with a percussion ensemble standard "Stained Glass" by David Gillingham depicting the beauty and color of stained glass through music.
