After years of dedication to their education, Oklahoma State University's recent commencement ceremonies provided graduates the opportunity to live out the Cowboy Code and finish what they started.
At OSU, the Cowboy Code is a commitment that shapes students' journeys from their first step on campus to the moment they walk across the stage at commencement. Each tenet reflects the resilience, integrity and determination that define the Cowboy spirit.
We finish what we start is a simple statement, yet it carries the weight of long nights, early mornings and the perseverance required to overcome challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
Each member of the graduating class demonstrated a profound determination to push through difficult semesters — with the support of friends, family, faculty and staff — based on the unwavering belief that the goal was within reach.
As these graduates reflected on their journeys, we asked a few what it meant to them to achieve that goal and finish what they started.
"Today, I feel thankful. I'm grateful. I'm proud of myself, and I just can't believe these four years have gone by so quickly. Finishing what I start isn't just an accomplishment; it's a way of life, and I'm so proud to be a Cowboy, and that is our way of life."
Shattuck, Oklahoma
"To me, it means I finally accomplished something. I'm a mom of four, and being able to do this has been a dream."
Shawnee, Oklahoma
"What it means to me is being a first-time college graduate for my family. It's the start of something totally new for my whole family. So I just hope that my girls would want to do the same, graduate and follow the same steps."
Claremore, Oklahoma
"It means to me to always keep pushing and striving to meet your goals. And when time gets tough, keep doing the best you can and know that in the end, it'll pay off."
Flower Hill, Oklahoma
"To me, it means just sticking to it. I mean, college is hard. Not a lot of people do this, so I think it's just something that you stick through it, even if it is hard."
Bethany, Oklahoma
"I think it just means never give up. I think no matter what happens in life, you know whether you're going through the ups and downs or whatever, just whatever it takes, I think that it just means you're never gonna quit as a Cowboy."
Stillwater, Oklahoma
"I think it means having a great determination to actually finish what you started. And some people start things, and they get caught up in it, but having the grit to finish it is what really matters."
Edmond, Oklahoma
"It means doing the bold thing and the hard thing, and making the right choice no matter what, and just persevering and never giving up."
