Oklahoma State University has appointed Charles McCann as chief information officer for the OSU System.

The OSU/A&M Board of Regents approved McCann’s selection Friday during its meeting at the OSU Institute of Technology campus. In this role, McCann will continue to provide strategic and operational leadership for information technology services across OSU campuses, while partnering closely with OSU Center for Health Sciences and overseeing enterprise-level services that extend to five additional system institutions.

McCann’s experience and leadership will be critical to advancing Answering the Call, OSU’s strategic plan, particularly its goal of embracing emerging technologies and digital transformation through a human-centered approach to artificial intelligence that prioritizes learning, creativity and ethical responsibility.

“I’m grateful for the confidence placed in me and honored to continue serving Oklahoma State University as chief information officer,” McCann said. “I’ve had the opportunity to experience OSU as both an employee and a student during my more than 30 years here. Those experiences have deepened my appreciation for our mission and the people who make it possible.

“With current leadership, a new strategic plan and remarkable advances in technology, this is an exciting time to be at OSU. I’m especially proud of the progress our EIT team and our partners across campus have made together over the past year. Working with colleagues across the university, we’ll continue building on that momentum, strengthening our culture of collaboration and turning technological innovation into practical improvements that help our students, faculty and staff succeed and advance our land-grant mission.”

McCann has served OSU for 32 years in Enterprise Information Technology in various roles from analyst and manager to director of technology support and deputy CIO. Most recently, he served as interim CIO for the past year.

McCann earned master’s degrees in management information systems and business administration from OSU and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of South Carolina.

“Charles has served admirably over the past year as interim CIO, and his continued leadership will further the progress that has been made in the EIT department both in technical needs and workplace culture,” said Jason Ramsey, OSU’s senior vice president and chief operating officer.

“Together, we will shape the future of technology as a leading land-grant institution, ensuring that IT services empower students, faculty and staff to achieve their goals.”
