Last week, Oklahoma State University hosted several activities to commemorate the 105th edition of America’s Greatest Homecoming.

The OSU Cowboy Stampede kicked off America's Greatest Homecoming on Oct. 16-18. It is the OSU Rodeo team's biggest event of the year and is sponsored by the Ferguson College of Agriculture.

The Cowboy Stampede is sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The NIRA includes 11 national regions, and OSU participates in the Central Plains Region, which features more than 20 colleges and universities from Kansas and Oklahoma, totaling more than 500 regional competitors.

Fountain Dyeing

It all started with the annual Fountain Dyeing at Edmon Low Library on Sunday. At this event, members of the OSU Alumni Association's Homecoming Executive Team turned the OSU fountain on the Beverly Clerico Plaza orange to kick off the week's festivities. This year's Homecoming theme, selected by the Homecoming Executive Team, was "The Code Calls Us Home."

OSU President Jim Hess spoke, and members of the OSU Spirit Squad, as well as Pistol Pete, joined in the celebration. The Homecoming King and Queen pair of Levi Balthrop and Carmen Kuiper were crowned. An interview with Johnson and Rossman is available on YouTube.

Harvest Carnival and Chili Cookoff

The Harvest Carnival and Chili Cookoff were Tuesday night at the Payne County Expo Center.

The Harvest Carnival actually predates OSU's Homecoming, going back all the way to 1913.

    Hester Street Painting

On Wednesday, community members came to Hester Street near campus to paint encouraging messages for the Cowboy football team and coaches to read during the Spirit Walk on game day.

    All-Night Pomp

Every year, OSU's fraternities and sororities work for weeks to create house decorations to showcase their pride for the university and to best highlight that year's theme.

    Sea of Orange Parade

The Sea of Orange Parade took place Saturday morning and went from downtown all the way up Main Street to Hall of Fame Avenue.

The grand marshal this year was Cowboy football legend Terry Miller, a standout running back in the 1970s. The full parade is available to watch on YouTube.
