Oklahoma State University alumnus Luke Johnson has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to travel to Taiwan’s Kinmen Islands during the 2020-21 program cycle. Johnson will support English instruction at a Taiwanese institution as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant.

Johnson is one of two OSU alumni for this award year and is one of over 2,100 U.S. citizens who will conduct research, teach English and provide expertise abroad for the 2020-21 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected based on academic and professional achievement, as well as their record of service and leadership potential in their respective fields.

Johnson received his bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Management and completed minors in both International Business and Chinese at OSU in December 2019. In 2017, he received both the Humphreys’ long-term travel grant and the Humphreys’ scholarship to attend Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and later attend the Beijing Language and Culture University. He continued his language and culture studies in the OSU Chinese language department and later attended Chinese Immersion Programs at Middlebury Language Schools in both 2018 and 2019. These OSU experiences will serve him well during his time with Fulbright.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State.
