Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City recognized outstanding faculty and staff during its annual employee excellence awards luncheon Thursday afternoon.
Centered on the theme “Live by the Code,” the event highlighted employees who embody the Cowboy Code through their commitment to students, colleagues and the mission of OSU-OKC.
“Our awards luncheon was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the faculty and staff who go above and beyond every day to support our students, strengthen our campus community and advance our mission,” said Dr. Ronna Vanderslice, OSU-OKC Provost.
The L.E. “Dean” Stringer Award, one of the institution’s highest honors, was presented to Jacqueline Mullen. Named after a 1958 Oklahoma State University graduate and dedicated supporter, the award recognizes individuals who demonstrate integrity, leadership and a commitment to something greater than themselves.
Mullen was selected for her exceptional teaching and meaningful impact on students. She creates an engaging classroom environment where students are encouraged to participate, think critically and connect course material to real-world applications. Despite maintaining rigorous academic standards, she has earned consistently outstanding student feedback, including perfect evaluation scores. With 13 nominations, she received the highest number submitted this year. Mullen is the department head and professor in crime victim/survivor services.
“I am deeply humbled to receive the L.E. ‘Dean’ Stringer Excellence in Teaching Award,” Mullen said.
“It is an honor to be part of the OSU-OKC team, and I am grateful for my students and colleagues who make this journey meaningful every day. My north star is the success of my students, and I strive to create an environment where they feel supported, challenged and empowered to flourish.”
Two employees were also recognized with staff excellence awards for their dependability, pursuit of excellence and commitment to advancing OSU-OKC.
Tamera Bell, a recipient of the Classified Staff Excellence Award, was honored for her work supporting students and faculty in the School of Professional Studies. Known for her organization, patience and problem-solving skills, Bell helps create an environment where students feel supported and operations run efficiently.
“It is an honor to receive a staff excellence award,” Bell said. “I appreciate my colleagues for their support and teamwork as we strive to make OSU-OKC a place where students can succeed.”
Briana Flatley, recipient of the Administrative and Professional Staff Excellence Award, was recognized for her dedication to expanding educational opportunities for students. Through her efforts, students have secured more than $5 million in scholarships and grants and gained admission to top universities nationwide. Flatley serves as program manager for Upward Bound.
The university also recognized employees for milestone years of service, honoring their lasting contributions to the institution.
