OSU Opera to offer scenes from classics and more

Friday, January 30, 2015

The Oklahoma State University Opera and Orchestra are proud to present this year’s production, a collection of operatic scenes, titled “Love, Lust & Death: Four Tragic Acts of Love,” with performances set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.

Maddalena: Judith Prenzlow, Duke of Mantua: Michael Kollmorgen, and Gilda: Felisha Trundle

Each evening will include a modern one-act, “The Face on the Barroom Floor,” by H. Mollicone, and the closing scenes of three operas, “Don Giovanni,” by W.A. Mozart, “La Bohème,” by Giacomo Puccini, and “Rigoletto,” by Giuseppe Verdi. The scenes will be performed by OSU vocalists and instrumentalists, conducted by maestro Eric Garcia, and directed and produced by professors April Golliver-Mohiuddin and Steve Sanders.

“This year’s opera production will feature a variety of styles from old western saloon music to the music of Puccini and Verdi,” said Golliver-Mohiuddin. “I will never forget my first opera experience and my goal is help others enjoy this fine art form as much as the students, myself and opera lovers everywhere.”

Tickets are $8 general admission and $6 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased through the Music Department Office or online at http://marketplace.okstate.edu.  For more information contact April Golliver at (405) 744-8986.
