OSUIT Showcases Real-World Skills and STEM Careers to Nearly 800 Jenks High School Seniors

OSU Institute of Technology (OSUIT) had the opportunity to introduce nearly 800 seniors from Jenks High School to the numerous career paths available to them through OSU Polytech.
OSU-Tulsa hosted the students for the annual Jenks High School Onward Prep You: Senior Conference.
Aimed at helping students explore opportunities after high school, the conference connects them with industry professionals and college representatives through breakout sessions focused on various career and academic paths.
Among the highlights was OSUIT’s hands-on Go Lab, which the school brought on-site to give students a feel for real-world skills. From experimenting with virtual reality on Z-Space to watching a robotic arm in action, students had the chance to explore how today’s technology can open doors to tomorrow’s jobs. Chef Grady Perryman even created an ice sculpture, captivating students as he carved through a block of ice, illustrating both skill and artistry in the culinary arts.
“I’m in welding right now, and I love it, but I do worry about the physical demands of the job over time,” said Juliana, a senior at Jenks. “I’m considering studying engineering and have an interest in pipeline and instrumentation because I want financial security. It was great to learn more about the programs available to me.”
The event aligned with the broader OSU System’s Polytech initiative, which supports Oklahoma’s workforce demands through industry-aligned training. Programs in construction management, culinary arts, instrumentation, and pipeline integrity were among those introduced to the Jenks seniors, showcasing the range of technical fields OSUIT offers through hands-on learning and STEM-based programs.
“We want students to understand that there’s a place for them in these fields and that we’re here to help them reach their goals,” said Paula Harrold, assistant dean of the School of Engineering & Construction Technologies. “By participating in events like this, we hope to provide inspiration and direction as they start planning the next steps in their lives.”
By partnering in events like the Jenks Senior Conference, OSUIT continues to support Oklahoma’s emerging workforce through real-world learning experiences and STEM-based programs.
