The Oklahoma State University Flying Aggies Flight Team placed third in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association SAFECON Region VI Competition, held in Salina, Kansas, Oct. 13-17. The 15-member team competed in air and ground competitions and secured a place in the national competition this May in Madison, Wisconsin.

Patrick Tomko, a doctoral student in health and human performance, won first place, the People’s Choice Award and a $600 cash prize at the College of Education, Health and Aviation’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition on Oct. 24.

Dr. Robert S. Christenson, professor emeritus of health education in the OSU College of Education, Health and Aviation, is the recipient of the 2018 Honor Award, the most prestigious award presented by the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPRED). The award recognizes excellence in teaching; outstanding administrative achievement; contribution to research and professional publications; leadership in state, district and national professional associations; and meritorious service within the profession.

The establishment of the organization comes on the cusp of record setting enrollment in OSU’s aviation program and increased student interest in the aviation industry.

Dr. Nicole Colston, assistant research professor in the College of Education, Health and Aviation, recently received a $1,119,204 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for her research project, “Spotty Rain Campaign: Enhancing the Capacity for Rural Libraries to Engage the Public in Drought Monitoring.”
