Bubbles – Knocking on Death’s Door

It’s 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, when Marion Campeau of Fairfax, Oklahoma, pulled up to the emergency entrance of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Medical Hospital. Bubbles, her 12-week old Pekinese, had literally taken her last puppy breath. Bubbles was in cardiopulmonary arrest.

Ultrasound, also known as sonography, has been used in human and veterinary medicine alike for many years. Most people are familiar with its use in prenatal exams, allowing a “sneak peek” of the baby in utero. Ultrasound has a multitude of other uses and is becoming increasingly available to veterinary patients throughout Oklahoma.
