The Seretean Center for the Performing Arts is presenting a limited engagement staged presentation "Slapped" on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
Kevin Douglas, playwright/actor, wrote the Oklahoma State University Department of Theatre’s adaptation of the play "He Who Gets Slapped" by Leonid Andreyev into the new work. Douglas shortened the original play by about 130 pages with more circus elements included and described the adaptation as an absurd comedic, circus, revenge play.
"Slapped" is a tragicomedy that explores how the darkest moments in life can produce humor through the virtuosity of the circus. This staged presentation involves our patrons as well. At the end of the presentation, patrons will be asked for their opinions to help shape this new work.
“Creating these new works is often a challenging process, peppered with unexpected hurdles, tough choices and unique opportunities to develop novel and groundbreaking art," interim Department of Theatre head Lee Brasuell said. "The creation of 'Slapped' is no exception. What you will see is a culmination of an ensemble of artists collaborating to breathe life into this body of work which is still in its infancy and maturing into what it wants to be.”
'Slapped' shows at 7:30 pm, Sept. 30, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Oct. 1. Skip the line at the box office and get your tickets early at okstate.universitytickets.com or reserve your seats by calling the Theatre Box Office at 405-744-6094.
