Lynley Fox, a senior accounting major at Oklahoma State University, was selected by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to receive one of 43 $10,000 scholarships awarded nationwide.
Charlotte Wright, Professor and Lanny Chasteen Chair of Accounting at the Spears School of Business, nominated Fox for the scholarship. “When we learned that OSU had the opportunity to participate we wanted to nominate the most outstanding student in our PPA (Professional Program in Accounting). Lynley Fox is outstanding not only in the classroom but also as a member of the OSU community,” said Wright.
The PCAOB Scholarship Program awards funds to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accounting degree program at accredited U.S. colleges or universities.
Fox will earn her undergraduate degree in the spring of 2014. She plans to complete her master’s degree in accounting in the spring of 2015 at OSU. The 21-year-old is a member of the OSU Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Business Student Council, Business Ambassadors, Beta Gama Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, and LDSSA (Latter Day Saints Student Association). Fox plans to use the scholarship to pay for the majority of her graduate school tuition.
“I feel so blessed to be awarded this scholarship. I am so grateful to Dr. Wright who headed up the nomination committee and the entire committee for selecting me as the nominee,” said Fox, daughter of Scott and Britton Fox of Tulsa, Okla.
The PCAOB is a nonprofit corporation established by Congress to oversee the audits of public companies in order to protect investors and the public interest by promoting informative, accurate, and independent audit reports. PCAOB was formed following the infamous corporate meltdowns of Enron and WorldCom. The PCAOB scholarship was created from fines imposed upon those companies.
“OSU and the School of Accounting are honored to be selected as one of only a handful of schools nationwide to receive a PCAOB scholarship. This accomplishment is further evidence of the quality of our program and of our students,” said Wright.
