OSU will host national conference on disruptive innovation in health care

Healthcare conferenceThe 2013 OSU Healthcare Conference, focusing on disruptive innovations in health care, is scheduled for Feb. 28 at Oklahoma City’s National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. National and state health care experts will provide updates on cutting edge programs in “Disruptive Innovation in Healthcare.”

The national conference will last from 8 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. and will be presented by OSU’s Center for Health Systems Innovation and the Center for Executive and Professional Development in cooperation with the OSU Center for Health Sciences.

This 2013 OSU Healthcare Conference reflects a growing need to transform today’s functional health care systems into one in which creative and innovative solutions will lead to better health and health care delivery.

“It is a great opportunity for Oklahoma health professionals and administrators to acquaint themselves with the innovative practices of some of the world’s leading health organizations as well as with cutting-edge technologies that are bound to change the face of health and health care in the future,” said Rubin Pillay, Daniel White Jordan Chair in Entrepreneurship and Creativity for the School of Entrepreneurship in the Spears School of Business and faculty coordinator of the conference.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Jason Hwang, author of “The Innovator’s Prescription: A Disruptive Solution for Health Care;” Ryan Hamilton, vice president of Genesis Development at Cerner in Kansas City; Dr. Johnathan Darer, chief information officer of the Division of Clinical Innovation of Geisinger Health System in Danville, Penn.; Dr. Douglas Wood, director of the Strategy and Policy Center for Innovation of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Dr. Martin Harris, chief information officer and chairman of the Information Technology Division of the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.

Additional local speakers will be Kelley Brewer, CEO of Lakeside Women’s Hospital of Oklahoma City; Steve Mackin, president and CEO of the Southwestern Regional Medical Center of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, and Ted Haynes, president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma in Tulsa.

A special panel on disruptive innovation will feature OSU President Burns Hargis as moderator. Speakers on the panel include David Kendrick, assistant provost for strategic planning at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center; Elliot Turrini, CEO of Collaborative Health in Mendham, N.J.; Jonathan Baran, CEO of HealthFinch in Madison, Wis.; Bern Shen, CMO of HealthCrowd in Cupertino, Calif., and Michael Graffeo, director of marketing at Dune Medical Devices of Boston. 

Gold sponsors include Saint Francis Health System, Cancer Treatment Centers of America and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma. Silver sponsors include Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Stillwater Medical Center and The Petroleum Club of Oklahoma City.

Registration for the 2013 OSU Healthcare Conference is $275 (or $250 each if three or more people from the same organization attend). Platinum, gold and silver sponsorships are still available.
