OSU’s School of Accounting is ranked No. 4 in undergrad programs with 15 or fewer faculty

Monday, December 2, 2013

School of Accounting logoOklahoma State University’s School of Accounting has been recognized as the fourth best undergraduate program in the nation in the rankings of those schools with 15 or fewer full-time faculty.

The School of Accounting in the Spears School of Business is number four in the Public Accounting Report 32nd Annual Professors Survey – 2013. It is the nation’s only survey that allows accounting professors to rank the nation’s best accounting programs.

Bob Cornell, head of the School of Accounting, is pleased that professors from across the United States recognize that Oklahoma State is producing the type of accountants that firms want to hire.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by our peers in this year’s report and to have evidence that we are improving each year,” said Cornell, whose school has 14 full-time accounting professors. “We appreciate that faculty, staff, students, and alumni participate together to provide the highest quality education to our students, engage in research that positively affects accounting practice, and are wise stewards of the resources entrusted to us.

“As we continue to work together to build upon a tradition of quality established by those who have preceded us, we hope to continue to inspire each other to achieve excellence and pursue life-long learning,” Cornell said.

In the rankings of all undergraduate programs, regardless of the number of full-time faculty, the School of Accounting is tied for number 39. The OSU accounting program continues to move up in the undergraduate rankings as it was tied for 41st in 2012 and was ranked No. 48 in 2011.

Ken Eastman, interim dean of the Spears School, said, “We are very proud of Dr. Cornell and the faculty and staff of the School of Accounting, Their commitment to the education and development of their students is impressive and it is great to see their efforts being recognized by their peers. Our accounting program is on an upward trajectory and I am confident that they will have even greater success in the future.”

Vickie Carr, Tax Partner and National Leader Financial Report of Texas for Deloitte, believes that Oklahoma State is doing its job in preparing its students to enter the business world.

“The competition for talent continues and the need for great accounting students is even more critical than ever for the Big 4 accounting firms including Deloitte,” Carr said. “Oklahoma State provides students the required, quality technical training (table stakes). It also offers an environment where students gain exposure to non-technical experiences – study abroad opportunities, interaction with OSU alums in different businesses locally and abroad, etc. They care about their students. I couldn't be more proud of the recognition of achievement for my alma mater.”

The 32nd Annual Professors Survey provides professors from across the United States with an avenue to express their views to accounting firms about campus recruiting. Professors from nearly 200 U.S. colleges and universities participated in the 2013 survey, which was conducted in May and June.
