Spears School of Business student Morgan Melot is the recent recipient of the Association for Career and Technical Education’s (ACTE) Region 4 Outstanding Business Education Student award. The award was presented at the ACTE Career Tech Vision 2013 conference in Las Vegas.

Melot is a senior marketing student and member of the Oklahoma State University Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, the collegiate division of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA–PBL).

“Although this award always brings forth the best of the best, this year brought more excellent student applications than in years past,” Awards Chair Yvonne Gutierrez-Sandoval said. “The final selection of winners occurs after a team of judges reviews all of the submitted materials.”

Her achievements include being a past president of her local chapter at Tulsa Community College’s West Campus, where she graduated with honors in 2012, and a past state president while at OSU. She currently serves as the 2013-14 PBL National Treasurer. Also, she has attended seven national leadership conferences and has placed in various events at national competitions, including a recent second place Future Business Executive finish this past summer in Anaheim, Calif.

Sarah Chabinak, Melot’s local adviser, is proud of Melot and her achievements.

“Morgan has an upbeat personality and is able to work with all different kinds of people,” Chabinak said. “She is an excellent representative of Phi Beta Lambda not only with her fellow college students but also with FBLA and Professional Division members. Not only is Morgan very organized and detail oriented but she also carries out her duties with a cheerful, confident attitude that quickly endears her to those she meets.”

Melot is the first OSU student since Mary Oliver-Marshall in 2008 to receive this prestigious honor through ACTE and FBLA–PBL..
