Top-Level State Officials Participate In Governor's Executive Development Program

Top-level state employees met July 29 through Aug. 2 for The Governor’s Executive Development Program for State Officials. The program, held at Oklahoma State University, was an educational opportunity designed for state employees to improve their thinking and decision making, exchange ideas and learn new skills in an interactive setting.
This uniquely designed program was developed around five executive leadership competencies. It was presented by exceptional faculty members, whose specific goals were to improve participants’ ability to lead change, lead people, achieve results, and build business acumen, coalitions and communication.
“The overall program was the single most useful tool I have experienced in all my training over an 18-year career in state government,” said Dana Webb, director of policy and legislative services, Office of Management and Enterprise Services.
The program featured sessions from senior faculty members from Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and American University in Washington, D.C. Faculty presenting the sessions were Raj Basu, Matt Bowler, Ken Eastman, Rebecca Greenbaum, Andrew Urich, Lee Manzer and Debra Nelson from OSU’s Spears School of Businesss; Ryan Bisel and Nim Razook from OU, and Patrick Malone from American University.
Participants attended seminars that varied from learning about emotional intelligence to how storytelling can be used as a management tool to ethical decision making in government.
“This is a high-quality educational program that balances self-discovery with practical tools for improving our service to our agencies and constituents,” said Sheri Mauck, associate vice chancellor for budget and finance, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
The 8th Annual Governor’s Executive Development Program for State Officials was held in cooperation with the State of Oklahoma Office of Human Capital Management, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Oklahoma.
Fifty-one state officials attended this educational program, including Yasmine Barve, Oklahoma Health Care Authority; Tom Bates, Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office; Gary Beebe, Office of Management and Enterprise Services-Employee Group Insurance Division; Stacy Bonner, Oklahoma Department of Labor; Kathryn Brewer, Oklahoma Department of Human Services-Office of Client Advocacy; Derek Campbell, City of Sand Springs; Carie Carman, Office of Management and Enterprise Services.
