Spears School’s Daniel Asamoah honored with 2014 Phoenix Award
Monday, April 7, 2014
Daniel Asamoah, a doctoral student, research associate and instructor in the Spears
School’s Management Science and Information Systems program, was recently honored
with the 2014 Phoenix Award, presented annually to one outstanding master’s student,
one doctoral student and a faculty member at Oklahoma State University.
Asamoah becomes only the second OSU business doctoral student to receive the Phoenix
Award since its inception in 1983. The only other business student to be recognized
over the years was Bill Hardgrave, also an MIS doctoral graduate, who was honored
in 1993.
Each spring, the OSU Graduate and Professional Student Government Association selects
an outstanding master’s student, doctoral student, and faculty member to present with
its highest honor: the Phoenix Award. The Phoenix Award recognizes exemplary achievement
in leadership, scholarship, professional involvement including teaching and/or research,
and university and community service.
“The department is proud of Daniel's accomplishments and this is a great honor for
him,” said Rick L. Wilson, head of the Spears School’s Management Science and Information
Systems Department. “Daniel has tremendous work ethic and has unlimited potential
in his future academic career. His successes can be attributed to his own efforts,
as well as the exceptional mentoring done by the MSIS faculty, especially his advisor
Dr. Ramesh Sharda.”
The student award winners each receive a $350 monetary award from the GPSGA and the
Graduate College, and all winners have their names engraved on the Phoenix Awards
plaque located outside the Graduate College offices in Whitehurst Hall.
Asamoah will be presented his award at a reception at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Starlite
Terrace of the Student Union.
