Erin Scanlan, a senior marketing and management major at Oklahoma State University, is the recipient of the prestigious 2015 Raymond D. Thomas Award, given annually to the top senior in the Spears School of Business. Each year, a faculty committee in the business school votes who will receive the award and the $600 lifetime membership to the OSU Alumni Association.

"I am so honored to have been selected as this year's Raymond D. Thomas Award recipient," said Scanlan. "This award means so much simply because it comes from the faculty and talented staff at the Spears School of Business. I got somewhat emotional when I heard my name announced because I know the enormous impact and role that professors and faculty have played in my journey here at OSU. They have not only given me knowledge in the business field but they have all invested in my growth as an individual as I prepare to graduate from OSU. I am so humbled and grateful for the significant role that these people have played in my life throughout the past four years."

On campus, Scanlan is the Vice President on Business Student Council, Chaplain for Pi Beta Phi Sorority, President for Spears School Ambassadors, a member of the Mentorship Program for the Spears School, a Scholar Leader for the Spears School, FOCUS student leader, a member of the Student Alumni Board and she participates in various philanthropic activities both on and off campus. This past fall Scanlan was crowned the 2014 Oklahoma State University Homecoming Queen.

After graduation, Scanlan will move to Denver, Colo., where she’ll serve as a missionary for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). After a few weeks she’ll be assigned to a permanent college campus within the U.S. where she’ll work for the next two years.

As a first generation cowgirl from New Mexico, Scanlan shares why she chose OSU. “The thing that set OSU apart from other universities for me was the absolute sense of community and family-like atmosphere. When I stepped foot on OSU’s campus my senior year of high school I felt like the University actually wanted me here as a student. They wanted to help me succeed. It was a very different feeling than I experienced anywhere else. Moreover, the people in Stillwater love this University so much, which I could see so clearly—that meant a lot coming from a girl who grew up in a small town in New Mexico."
