Charlotte Wright, Anadarko Petroleum Chair in Accounting and Lanny G. Chasteen Professor in the Spears School of Business School of Accounting, has been named a Regents Professor at Oklahoma State University.
The position of Regents Professor is the most prestigious position that may be attained in recognition of scholarly accomplishments by faculty on the campus of Oklahoma State University. The position recognizes the few select faculty who have made unique contributions in several areas including research, artistic performance, creativity, teaching, and extension, to note only a few. The Regents Professor must demonstrate a distinguished record of nationally recognized excellence and scholarship in his/her discipline.
“Dr. Wright is our senior faculty member and is world-renowned for her work in financial accounting, particularly with respect to oil and gas accounting,” said Bob Cornell, head of the School of Accounting.
Wright is only the second Regents Professor in the history of the School of Accounting and only one of four current Regents Professors in the Spears School of Business including Robert Baron (entrepreneurship), Dan Rickman (economics and legal studies) and Ramesh Sharda (MSIS).
“Recognition as a Regents Professor at Oklahoma State is the most esteemed honor that I have received in my academic career,” said Wright. “I have long admired the successes of Oklahoma State’s Regents Professors and am honored to be counted as part of such an esteemed group. I am humbled by this acknowledgment of my career and I view it as both a personal honor and a recognition of the internationally respected status of the School of Accounting.”
The fact that Wright has devoted her entire academic career to OSU “makes this honor even more significant,” she says.
She began her career as an assistant professor at Oklahoma State in 1982 and has been promoted through the ranks while managing to stay in the classroom every year for the past 32 years. “During that time I have had the opportunity to teach and mentor some of the best and brightest students in the country. I see my students and their many successes as being among my greatest accomplishments. I hope that this starts a tradition in the School of Accounting and that the School has many other Regents Professors in the future,” said Wright.
“We are proud to have Charlotte on the faculty and appreciate her dedication to our teaching, research, service, and outreach missions. She continues to be exceptional in each regard and she serves as an example of excellence to all of us,” said Cornell.
