Thursday, June 23, 2016
Oklahoma State University’s online master’s in entrepreneurship program is being recognized as the No. 1-ranked program in the United States, according to OnlineColleges.com.
The unique methodology used to evaluate entrepreneurship programs by OnlineColleges.com is based on factors that matter to students – like graduation rates and tuition costs.
“We are delighted to see our master’s degree in entrepreneurship receive this ranking,” said Ken Eastman, dean of the Spears School of Business. “Spears Business strives to provide a high-quality, online experience for our students and this ranking reflects our commitment to our online students. Our School of Entrepreneurship does a wonderful job of engaging students and it is great to see them recognized for their efforts.”
The OnlineColleges.com review of the OSU program reads as follows:
Topping the list is Oklahoma State University's School of Entrepreneurship in Stillwater,
Oklahoma. Part of the Spears Business School, it offers an online program for a master's
in entrepreneurship (MSE). This program combines online learning with out of classroom
experiences including the Riata Business Plan Competition, the OSU Cowboy Entrepreneurship
Bootcamps, Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE), and the OSU Entrepreneurial
Mentors. OSU offers online courses as part of its undergraduate major in entrepreneurship.
There is also an online program for a graduate certificate in entrepreneurship as
well. At OSU's School of Entrepreneurship, over 160 of the nearly 1,000 students taking
undergraduate entrepreneurship courses in 2015 were taking them online. Over 60% of
master's students were online.
OSU earned the top billing in the OnlineColleges.com rankings. The university came
in second out of 17 schools for its graduation rate. The school also scored fourth
in prominence.
“The goals of our program are twofold. First, to teach the business startup process,
whether it’s in the context of a new venture or an existing firm,” said Bruce Barringer,
head of the OSU School of Entrepreneurship. “Second, is to instill in our students
the ‘entrepreneurial mindset,’ which is the capacity to think and behave in an entrepreneurial
manner. While some of our students start businesses, many of them use the skills we
teach them in traditional careers. Almost all employers are looking for employees
who can help them find new markets and develop new products. Our students consistently
give us high marks for the experience they have in our online program.”
The national recognition comes a few months after the OSU School of Entrepreneurship online master’s degree was No. 2 in the listing of the 10 Most Affordable Online MBA Entrepreneurship Programs, as selected by EDsmart.org.
Also, the School of Entrepreneurship was recognized as one of the top schools in the nation for the fourth time since 2012 in rankings published by The Princeton Review and featured in Entrepreneur magazine. The School of Entrepreneurship is No. 23 on the list of the Top 25 Graduate Schools for Entrepreneurship Studies for 2016, placing OSU at No. 11 for public universities. The rankings are based on surveys sent to more than 2,000 schools from May to August 2015.
The OSU entrepreneurship program started in 2008 and quickly made a name for itself across the nation. The OSU School of Entrepreneurship debuted in the top 25 in the 2012 rankings and has continued to be honored for its outstanding educational opportunities.
