OSU Leadership Development Certificate Series coming to Oklahoma City

The 2017 Oklahoma State University Leadership Development Certificate Series includes five seminars presented by faculty from Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business.

Seminars will take place Feb. 22, May 23, Aug. 29 and Nov. 28 at Chesapeake Energy Corporation in Oklahoma City. This is the third year the Spears School has partnered with Chesapeake Energy to offer seminars in the Oklahoma City area. These seminars are designed to prepare, motivate, and build business leaders.

“We are excited to offer this new certificate series once again at Chesapeake Energy,” Courtney Garrison, program manager at the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development, said. “These seminars are open to the public, and we appreciate the great partnership we have with Chesapeake in offering topics pertinent to the business community at their facilities.”

Andrew Urich, J.D., will begin the series from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 22 with his presentation of “Critical Thinking: Leading Innovation and Value Creation.” Urich is an associate professor of management and the director of student development at the Eastin Center for Talent Development in the Spears School. His presentation will discuss the vital role that mindset and thinking play in the development of skills such as problem solving, making good decisions, and creating profitable ideas.

Bryan Edwards, Ph.D., will present “Accessing and Engaging Employees” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 23. Edwards is an associate professor of management and Joe Synar Chair in the Spears School. He is an expert in the areas of human resources, performance management, communication, conflict resolution, organizational training and development, research methodology, and statistical methods. His presentation will teach business leaders how to implement ‘High Involvement Leadership’ in the workplace to guide discussion and keep individuals focused on the primary issues within their company.

Ken Eastman, Ph.D., will present “Good to Great: What’s a Leader to Do?” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 29. Eastman is the dean of the Spears School of Business and holds the Norman and Suzanne Myers Chair and Richard W. Poole Professorship. His presentation will discuss how a leader can take their company from good to great.

The series will conclude on Nov. 28 with two seminars by Raj Basu, Ph.D. He is the vice president for student affairs for OSU-Tulsa and associate professor of management in the Spears School. His first presentation, “Put Your Team and Company First: An Employees Guide to Advancement and Success,” will take place from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This presentation covers how employees can help their organization succeed and advance.

Finally, Basu will present “Enhancing Employee Motivation through Coaching” from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 28. This seminar covers issues across the life span of teams, from deciding when to use them, to understanding their stages of development, to moving them toward high performance.

Registration for the 2017 Oklahoma State University Leadership Development Certificate Series is $350 per person per day or $1,260 for the entire series (10 percent discount). A discount is available for groups of three or more.
