OSU Professional Development Programs to benefit Ponca City business community

OSU Professional Development ProgramsThe three-part Professional Development Ponca City Programs offered by the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University will take place on April 5, May 24 and June 21 at the University Center at Ponca City.

These seminars will help participants strengthen their business profile while developing new skills. The instructors, Spears School of Business faculty, will provide up-to-date, relevant and practical information that can be easily applied in the workplace. This program is designed for managers, leaders and front-line employees from organizations at all stages and with various backgrounds.

“The OSU faculty are bringing a wealth of expertise and practical information to the Ponca City business community with these professional development seminars,” said Adam Leaming, chief executive officer at the University Center at Ponca City. “These programs will help business managers and leaders build on their leadership skills and learn new techniques they can apply the next day.”

Matt Bowler, associate professor of management at Spears Business, will give the first presentation from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 5. His presentation, “Supervisory Program Part 1: Changing Roles- Understanding Power and Leadership,” will help participants understand their role as a manager and how to develop their power in this role. It will also explore different leadership styles and effective leadership actions.

Raj Basu, vice president for student affairs at OSU-Tulsa and associate professor of management at Spears Business, will present “Supervisory Program Part 2: Mentoring, Enhancing Employee Performance and Coaching,” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 24. This program will focus on the importance of mentoring as a manager and enhancing employee performance by understanding motivational approaches.

Bryan Edwards, Joe Synar chair and associate professor of management at Spears Business, will present “Managing Confrontations” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 21. He will address gaps between expectations and performance and will demonstrate a straightforward, step-by-step process for identifying and resolving performance gaps, strengthening accountability, eliminating inconsistency and reducing resentment.

Registration for each presentation in the Professional Development Ponca City Programs is $350 per person. The registration fee includes instruction, materials and break refreshments. The series is offered in partnership with Dorada Foods and the University Center at Ponca City.
