Oklahoma State University, University of Nevada, Renoto offer Certificate in Gaming Leadership

The Spears School of Business is offering a Certificate in Gaming Leadership at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa from Jan. 22-25, 2018.

Faculty from Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business and the University of Nevada, Reno will provide participants with unique educational experience in leadership and gaming management. A Certificate in Gaming Leadership will be awarded following completion of the 27.75 hours of instruction. These sessions can also be counted toward the Certificate in Gaming Management offered by the University of Nevada, Reno.

“We are excited to host this inaugural program at our flagship property, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa,” said Mark Fulton, chief operating officer of Cherokee Nation Entertainment. “This professional education opportunity is important in developing effective management teams that have both the technical and leadership capabilities to sustain continued growth in the industry. It strengthens the gaming management community and provides gaming leaders with the additional knowledge and skills for further growth and success.”

“The tribal gaming and hospitality industry in Oklahoma is a driving economic force. Along with having a more than $7 billion impact on the state’s economy, gaming has been a catalyst for tribes to make investments in economic development and tribal services. Tribes have created thousands of jobs for their citizens and continue growing their economy through diversification,” Fulton said.

Participants will hear from leadership and management experts as Ken Eastman, Raj Basu, Lee Manzer and Andrew Urich from Spears Business, and experts in the gaming industry, including Jessie Beaudoin, director of surveillance, San Manuel Casino, Highland, Calif.; Jeff Jordan, University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Continuing Education, and Bill Zender, monthly contributor to Casino Enterprise Management Magazine.

“Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno is delighted to form a new partnership with the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University to offer a new Certificate in Gaming Leadership in 2018,” University of Nevada, Reno operations manager JoAnne Gipson said. “This program was jointly developed to enhance the management education of thousands of gaming industry members to offer a well-rounded training need in both operational areas and leadership skills for the numerous casinos and gaming organization throughout the U.S. We’re pleased to work closely with our partners in Oklahoma to give our clients the chance to be part of this new program as it kicks off in January 2018.”

Those who should attend includes supervisors with direct reports with usually less than five years of management experience. Three different tracks will be offered concurrently: slot operations, surveillance operations and table game operations.

The fee for the program is $2,995 per person and $2,695 per person if three or more register from the same company. Special pricing is available if 10 or more are registered from the same company. Rooms at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa will be an additional $99 per night.
