Business analytics students team up to place third in CEAT vs. Spears case competition

Monday, April 23, 2018

Four Oklahoma State University master’s in business analytics students teamed up to place third at a case competition hosted on the Stillwater campus during the annual CEAT vs. Spears Week.

Ravi Josyula, Abhiram Pannala, Imran Selim and Lin Qi took third place out of 12 teams. Each of the teams were given about two and a half hours to come up with an answer to the question, “How can the internet of things be utilized to maximize productivity and efficiency within the energy sector?”

Each team presented a solution to the judges in a presentation not to exceed four minutes, and immediately after the presentation had to answer questions from the judges. Each presentation was judged on creativity, the feasibility of the idea and execution of the pitch.

“We are privileged to have the opportunity to learn from amazing professors in the classroom and then apply that knowledge to an actual business case, hence gaining real-world experience together,” Josyula said.

Goutam Chakraborty, director of the OSU master’s in business analytics program and founder of the SAS and OSU data mining certificate program, is pleased with the students who competed.

“I am very proud of Master’s in Business Analytics students who competed and placed in this event,” Chakraborty said.
