OSU recognized among best cyber security schools in three distinct rankings

Thursday, May 17, 2018

Oklahoma State University ranks among an elite set of schools nationally in its offering of cybersecurity degree programs, according to analysis by CyberDegrees.org.

OSU is among just seven colleges found in each of three key rankings by CyberDegrees.org: 30 Best Online Cyber Security Certificate Programs(No. 7), Top Cyber Security Schools(No. 12) and Top 25 Schools with Online Master’s in Cyber Security Programs(No. 23).

“Our programs in cyber security have long been nationally recognized, dating back to 2005 when we first obtained our Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education designation,” said Rick Wilson, professor and head of the Department of Management Science and Information Systems (MSIS) in OSU’s Spears School of Business. “We have top-notch faculty and facilities and remain eager to serve the increasing cyber security educational needs via both our undergraduate and graduate level programs.”

OSU is the highest ranking Big 12 Conference school, with only Iowa State also cracking each of the three rankings. Kansas is the only other Big 12 school recognized, listed in one of the three rankings.

“Our team analyzed the quality of every university with relevant programs and published our findings by degree level and focus,” Deb Molfetta said on behalf of cyberdegrees.org. “We named Oklahoma State University one of the nation’s top schools in multiple categories.”

Along with OSU and Iowa State, the other five schools recognized in all three rankings: Boston University, Illinois, Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Syracuse.

In detailing OSU’s No. 12 ranking in the 30 Best Online Cyber Security Certificate Programs category, the site reported: “Cyber security programs at OSU’s main campus are handled by the Department of Management Science and Information Systems in the Spears School of Business. That means programs often stress the real-world, business applications of IT and security.”

CyberDegrees.org launched in 2013 to serve as an online resource for students interested in cyber security education and careers.
